MycoTec Lab is a Biotechnology Laboratory based at SpinPark in the North of Portugal. The focus of MycoTec Lab is fungi. These organisms have numerous applications in pharmaceutical (e.g. penicillin), organic acid (e.g. citric acid) and industrial enzyme (e.g. amylase) production. They are important in biodeterioration of food, wood products, museum artefacts, drinking water, mouldy homes and many other areas. Fungi produce mycotoxins in foods and feed which are dangerous and which need to be quantified. Further, they are involved increasingly in human diseases.
